For more than a decade, the Tannahill Shield has enjoyed a strong partnership with Jamii Telecommunications Limited (JTL), a relationship nurtured through a shared commitment to excellence and the passion for golf championed by JTL Chairman, Dr. Joshua Chepkwony. What began as a sponsorship has evolved into a meaningful partnership that continues to support the growth of amateur golf in Kenya.
Widely regarded as one of the country's most prestigious amateur golf tournaments, the Tannahill Shield provides a platform for Kenya's finest golfers to test their skills while representing their clubs in a highly competitive inter-club championship. It is where talent is nurtured, rivalries are forged and golfing history is written.
The 101st edition of the tournament officially got underway with the traditional press briefing and sponsorship cheque presentation. Demonstrating its continued commitment to the sport, JTL contributed KSh 3.2 million towards the successful staging of the championship, reaffirming its support for one of Kenya's most celebrated golfing events.
Heading into the tournament, Mombasa Golf Club carried the weight of expectation as defending champions. However, after an intense competition that brought together some of the country's top amateur golfers, Royal Nairobi Golf Club emerged victorious, reclaiming the coveted title in spectacular fashion.
The tournament's closing ceremony delivered a memorable highlight as Dr. Joshua Chepkwony made a grand arrival by helicopter before joining Royal Nairobi Golf Club officials to officially present the 101st Tannahill Shield to the new champions. It was a fitting finale to a tournament defined by exceptional competition, sportsmanship and tradition.
The celebrations continued when representatives from Royal Nairobi Golf Club paid a courtesy visit to Jamii Towers to present the Shield to Dr. Chepkwony as a token of appreciation for JTL's unwavering support of Kenyan golf.
Led by Chairman Sylvester Odhiambo, alongside Captain George Makori and members of the victorious team, the visit served as a powerful reminder of the value of partnership in advancing the sport.
